Have kids ENT issues got your child feeling down? KidsStreet Urgent Care treats a variety of ear, nose, and throat conditions in children and can help them heal and feel better fast!

What Are ENT Services?

Otolaryngologists or ENT providers diagnose and treat issues that affect the ears, nose, and throat. More specifically, ENT specialists treat all kinds of long term illnesses and ailments that affect the ears, nose, and throat.

ENT Specialists vs. Urgent Care

Most pediatric ENT specialists see kids who struggle with conditions like prolonged ear infections, repetitive cases of tonsillitis, and recurring sinus infections. These conditions need in-depth testing and treatment, and may take a while to get an appointment. According to Duke Health, these are indicators that your child may need to see an ENT specialist:

  • Three or more sinus or ear infections in a calendar year
  • Six or more tonsillitis cases in a year
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Persistent cough lasting a month or longer
  • Ongoing nasal congestion
  • Fluid in the ears for a prolonged period of time

If your child doesn’t suffer with any kind of recurrent or concerning ENT conditions, they likely do not need to see an ENT specialist. KidsStreet is not an ENT specialist, however, our board certified providers can treat many kinds of urgent ENT issues that your kids encounter. Urgent ENT issues are those like non-recurrent ear infections, strep throat infections, and sinus infections.

Your child has just woken up with a runny nose, sore throat, and their ears have hurt all night. It’s time for KidsStreet Urgent Care! We offer a large variety of ENT issues through our urgent care services for kids

Allergies and Allergic Reactions

Allergies in children are a common culprit for creating ear, nose, and throat issues. Many kids suffer from seasonal allergies due to airborne allergens, like these:

  • Pollen
  • Mold spores
  • Dust
  • Insects
  • Pet dander

Allergic reactions to these substances may include:

  • Runny nose
  • Congestion
  • Hay fever
  • Coughing
  • Itchy or congested ears

Ear Infections

Ear infections can be difficult for kids and parents alike. There are several types of ear infections kids can suffer with, however, middle ear infections are the most common. Anesthetic ear drops are commonly used to treat these infections, and can be prescribed by providers at KidsStreet.

Additional ear infections that affect kids per the CDC include otitis media with effusion and swimmers ear. The best way to prevent ear infections caused by swimmers ear is by ensuring your children’s ears are dry after bathing or swimming.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is another common condition that can affect a child’s ears, nose, and throat. The most recognizable symptom of bronchiti is a deep, chesty cough, however, other symptoms may include:

  • Sneezing
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Difficulty breathing

If bronchitis is bad enough, providers may prompt a chest x-ray to see the extent of the condition.
